Agatha is a lecturer of History in the Faculty of Education and Humanities at Gulu University, Uganda. She was born and grew up in Arua District, in the North Western region of the country. Agatha majored in History and holds a PhD and Master of Arts in History of Makerere University.
Her intellectual interest is in Social and Legal History focusing on Indigenous Knowledge Systems. Her goal is to grow into a scholar and researcher who contributes towards the creation of knowledge. Her ambition is to make scholarly publications in peer reviewed journals as well as write books and book chapters.
Agatha has had leadership roles and significant contributing roles in several research projects. She is the Project Coordinator for the Building Stronger Universities (BSU) project at Gulu University, funded by Danida. She is also Principal Investigator in the project on the ‘Effect of Covid-19 on the Youth Reproductive Health in Northern Uganda,’ also funded by Danida. She is a co-Investigator in the research project on “Uganda’s past, Ugandan futures: debates over equality and inclusion in 1979-80”.
Agatha is the Coordinator of UPCHAIN and the leader of Work Package Two: ‘Household Dynamics and Gender Relations in Cooking’ in the project. UPCHAIN adopts a bottom-top approach in addressing climate change starting from the household. The Work Package is cognizant of the influence of gender power-relations in cooking and use of cooking fuel which contributes towards climate change. She is part of an ongoing research on ‘Community Perspectives on the Lord’s Resistance Army War Reparations in Acholi Sub-Region in Uganda’.
Agatha has contributed to capacity building activities in Gulu University on Stability, Rights and Democracy in Post-Conflict Northern Uganda under key themes of ‘Transforming Education’ and ‘Right, Resources and Gender in Post-war development’. She has been organizing training courses in Transitional justice and legal pluralism and organizing community engagement with key stakeholders BSU. She is an accredited member of the FemWise-Africa, the Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation, an African Union initiative. She strives for the empowerment of the girl child and women through Education and participatory leadership.
Agatha’s vision is to inspire young people to appreciate the role of history in peace and nation building.
